According to a report from The Guardian journalist Andy Hunter, Liverpool have launched a £12 million bid to sign defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos from Bundesliga side Schalke 04.

The move comes as manager Brendan Rodgers attempts to fill the void left by the retirement of Jamie Carragher, with the club also moving for out-of-contract Manchester City defender Kolo Toure.

Papadopoulos has made 57 appearances for the Gelsenkirchen side since moving from Olympiacos. At the age of 21, he has already made 16 appearances for the Greek national side, scoring four goals.
