Why where Johan Cruyff and Edgar Davids asked to leave the Ajax board?

Cruyff and Davids have been asked to resign by the Ajax members’ council, along with the other Board members Steven ten Have, Paul Romer and Marjan Olfers.
There has been a bitter power struggle at board level with allegations of racism involving Dutch legend Cruyff, who is supposed to have suggested Davids was only on the board because of the colour of his skin. Cruyff denies this but there is no doubt of the animosity between the pair.
Now the members’ council have stepped in. If the five refuse to go then their future will be on the agenda at the next shareholders’ meeting on December 12th. As the members hold most of the shares, it will mean an inevitable goodbye for Cruyff and Davids and the others anyway
