Why was Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck booed when he appeared for England in a friendly against Ghana at Wembley?

Mike Hill:

Danny Welbeck was booed by the Ghana fans becasue he has chosen to play for England despite both of his parents coming from the African nation.

Welbeck was born in Machester and has represented England at youth level and simply saw his inclusion in the senior side as a natural progression.

“I kind of understand that,” he said talking about the booing aimed in his direction. “I’ve been playing for England at every single youth-team level so it’s kind of a natural progression just moving to the seniors and I’m obviously delighted with my own progress. It’s a bittersweet moment. I’ve got love for both countries. I can’t play for both. I can’t make everyone happy.”
