England coach Fabio Capello was not consulted on the decision to relieve John Terry of the armband pending his court case for making a racist remark to Anton Ferdinand last autumn. The case is due to be heard until July, after Euro 2012 and the FA have decided that Terry must not be captain although he is still available for selection as a player.

Capello gave a tv interview in Italy, in which he criticised the decision.

Depending on which translation you prefer he either said: "I completely disagree with the FA about the John Terry decision and I have told that to the chairman. I considered and still consider Terry the England captain. I think we first should wait for the trial conclusion."

Or he said: "I spoke with the chairman and I told him that I don’t think someone can be punished until it becomes official. The court will decide. It’s going to be civil justice, not sports justice, to decide if John Terry committed that crime he is accused of. And I thought it fair that John Terry keeps the captain’s armband."

Either way it puts Capello on shakey ground with his bosses.
